Bell, City Manager SUBJECT: Commission Candidate Interviews ____________________________________________________________________ The recruitment of volunteers to fill commission and board vacancies is ongoing. City staff received three applications for new appointments. The following interviews are scheduled for the Council work session on Dec. 14, 2023: Interview Time Applicant Board/Commission 6:35 p.m.; in-person Terri Schultz Bassett Creek Watershed Management Commission 6:45 p.m.; in-person Sabin Peterson Employee Review Board 6:55 p.m.; in-person Alex Popp Parks and Recreation Commission A recommendation sheet will be available at the work session. Dear City of Crystal, This note is related to my application to serve the City of Crystal on the Parks and Recreation Commission, and potential conflicts of interest. I am planning to start a permaculture foodscaping company. This company will focus on regenerating communities by helping them design and install edible landscapes on their land. One pillar of the company will focus on bringing communities together to install edible landscapes. For example, my company would help someone plan a party where they invite their friends and family over to plant a fruit orchard in their backyard. I plan to market this company and seek business from fellow citizens of Crystal, in an ethical manner. To date, I have also done some design work for a local food forest design and installation company. I will likely continue working for this company and may find employment with other permaculture companies. I believe my permaculture ventures would complement a role on Crystal's Parks and Recreation Commission. I would be honored to service the citizens of Crystal by bringing my knowledge and passion for permaculture and edible landscapes to our lovely community. I would mitigate any potential conflicts by being up front about these ventures with the City of Crystal to make sure I understand any potential conflicts. I would then act truthfully and openly to ensure my work compliments my role with the City of Crystal in an ethical, honest manner. I am also active on social media as a passionate educator and activist. I anticipate this activity increasing over the next year.
