At last week's meeting, there was a question about Osseo's experience with golf carts; how many are permitted annually and what are the requirements. Attached is the golf cart permit that Osseo created based on 2018 changes made to their city code (also attached). Conditions of the permit for golf carts are: - have to follow traffic laws - can't be on sidewalks or pedestrian walkways except when crossing them - have to have a rear view mirror have to have a reflective slow -moving vehicle triangle - proof of insurance The Osseo city administrator said they issue 5 or 6 permits a year - tends to be the same residents and they haven't had any serious issues. On occasion, police officers observe the golf cart drivers make some less than ideal driving decisions but since they know who the golf cart permit holders are, they give them simple safety reminders. Let me know if you have further questions. We actually just updated our golf cart ordinance in 2018. I've attached our ordinance as well as our permit. We don't issue a ton of these permits annually... maybe 5 or 6 at most. But it's the same residents each year who get the permit. It's one of those "small town" things that our residents love. Sometimes it drives our Police Officers a little nuts because they watch the golf cart drivers make some not -so -good -driving -decisions here and there, but they all know who they are and usually give simple reminders about driving golf carts. Otherwise we really haven't had any issues with these that I can remember. Hope that helps. Let me know if you have any other questions. Our Charter Commission had a conversation about allowing golf carts on city streets and Osseo's name came up. I think Osseo allows such vehicles in city streets? If this is true, do you require permit, how many permits have been issued and then what sort of conditions, is any, do these vehicles have to meet to be on the street?
