Barway Collins Memorial Monument at Becker Park
Barway's Story
On March 18, 2015, the life of 10 Year Old Barway Collins
ended tragically when he was murdered by his father.
Barway lived in Crystal, Minnesota, across the street from
Becker Park.
This project seeks to build a memorial that celebrates
Barway's life through placing a life-sized bronze statue of
Barway at Becker Park.
How You Can Help
We are seeking donations for the commission and
installation of the statue. The goal for this fundraiser is
$15,000.
The City of Crystal is a partner in this project and
donations may be made directly to the city. Funds will be
deposited in a special initiatives fund for this project.
100% of your donation will go to the creation and
installation of the statue. (Donations made through
GoFundMe are subject to GoFundMe's regular processing
fees.)
Checks should be made out to the City of Crystal.
Indicate Barway Memorial on the memo line.
Checks may be mailed to:
City of Crystal
4141 Douglas Dr. N.
Crystal, MN 55422
Attn: Barway Memorial
Donations may also be made online through GoFundMe.
Donations made to a City for a public purpose are
generally tax-deductible. Consult your accountant for
details.
Monument Details
The image above is a rough conceptual sketch used to
communicate the general concept of the monument. The
final monument will likely look different.
We are currently working with two professional bronze
statue studios and will make a final selection after
receiving proposals from both.
The statue will be life-sized - approximately 54 inches tall.
The pedestal will be roughly 18 to 22 inches tall and
made of the same stone that is used throughout Becker
Park.
There will be a bronze plaque on the front of the pedestal
with the statue's title and an inscription. There will be a
second bronze plaque on the rear of the pedestal
recognizing donors as indicated above.
We are working with the City of Crystal to determine the
best placement of the monument.
Timing of the monument installation is still pending. Once
we have the order in to the artist we will have a better
idea how long it will take to complete.
Donor Recognition
Individuals or groups who donate a total of $500 or more
will be recognized on a bronze plate to be located on the
rear of the statue pedestal.
