Crystal Tree Board Minutes
April 3, 2019

The Parks and Recreation Commission Tree Board meeting was called to order at 6:45pm by
Park and Recreation Commission Tree Board chair Lynn Haney.
Tree Board members in attendance were: Lynn Haney, Lori Merriam, Patrick Rosenquist, Dave
Anderson, Erin Kolb, Terencio Safford, Meredith Torres-Walsh and David Pascoe. Also present
were Nancy LaRoche, Council Liaison; John Elholm, Brad Fortin and Scott Berggren from the City
Staff.
Tree Board members absent were: Andy Leipold
Mr. McCaffery was also present to observe the meeting.
Mr. Fortin reviewed the Forestry Annual report, highlighting work that was done in the past
year. Crystal currently has five certified tree inspectors. Their main focus throughout the year is
doing tree inspections, maintenance and replacement. In 2018, a total of 96 trees were
removed in the city. As new trees are planted, a wider variety of tree species are being used. A
tree nursery has been created on the old public works site to create an accessible and more
cost effective source for trees.
The Commission discussed the timeline for the upcoming Arbor Day event on Wednesday, May
1 at Welcome Park. The schedule is as follows:
• 6:00pm - Park Clean-up
• 6:30pm - Program
• 6:35pm - Tree Planting
• 6:45pm - Tree Distribution (funds for trees provided by the Crystal Fund)
Tree Board members discussed refreshments at the event; and decided to again offer hot dogs,
chips, bottled water, etc. to event participants. Staff will secure the food license and all
supplies needed for the event.
Ms. Kolb made a motion to adjourn the meeting; Mr. Pascoe seconded the motion.
The meeting was adjourned at 7:01 pm
The next meeting is scheduled for April 1, 2020 at 6:45pm – at the Crystal Community Center
