18-05 Approved Commission MinutesCrystal Parks and Recreation Advisory Commission - Neighborhood Meeting Minutes May 2, 2018 Kentucky Park The Parks and Recreation Commission Neighborhood Meeting was called to order at 7:04 pm by Commission Chair Lori Merriam. Commission members in attendance were: Lynn Haney, Lori Merriam, Meredith Torres-Walsh, David Pascoe, Andy Leipold, Patrick Rosenquist, Tiffany Kovaleski and Erin Kolb. Also present were Olga Parsons, Council Liaison; John Elholm, Brad Fortin, John Sutter, Chief Stephanie Revering, Mark Ray, and Scott Berggren from the City Staff. Introductions were made of the Commission members and City Staff. Mr. John Sutter provided information on current and upcoming city projects. Chief Stephanie Revering informed residents of Neighborhood Watch programs and safety tips regarding medical disposable bags. She also recommended the Next Door website for communicating with neighbors. Mr. Mark Ray reviewed construction projects in the city. Mr. John Elholm presented on upcoming park projects. Display boards were shown. Mr. Brad Fortin highlighted recent and upcoming park projects. Parks staff is very busy at this time of year. Mr. Berggren gave an update on what the Recreation Department is working on. He highlighted current programs and encouraged residents to sign up for the Step to it Challenge. A resident received a Crystal Community Center activity gift certificate in a drawing. The meeting was adjourned at 7:21 pm. John Elholm Recorder Crystal Parks and Recreation Advisory Commission Minutes May 2, 2018 Kentucky Park The Parks and Recreation Advisory Commission Meeting was called to order at 7:30 pm by Commission Chair Lori Merriam. Commission members in attendance were: Lynn Haney, Lori Merriam, Meredith Torres-Walsh, David Pascoe, Andy Leipold, Patrick Rosenquist, Tiffany Kovaleski and Erin Kolb. Also present were Olga Parsons, Council Liaison; John Elholm, Brad Fortin, and Scott Berggren from the City Staff. There were no commission members absent. There was no public comment. Mr. Pascoe made a motion to approve the April Park and Recreation Commission minutes as amended; Mr. Rosenquist seconded the motion. The Park and Recreation Commission minutes for April were approved as written. There was no Chairperson’s Report Mr. Elholm gave a recap of the Becker Park Open House. He received many positive comments about the phase 1 plan. We also received positive press on the open house through the Sun Post and CCX media. In addition, Mr. Elholm attended the Home, Life and Family Fair at the Crystal Community Center, where he also explained the Becker Park project to those that had questions. At both events there were questions related to the project and Crystal Frolics. The Parks and Recreation Advisory Commission selected the Crystal Frolics button winners for 2018. Ms. Parsons presented the City Council Report. In the upcoming months they will be working on the budget, which will be moving to a bi-annual budget. She also mentioned that traffic counters were put on Xenia Ave. to help quantify the impact of closing the one block section of Welcome Ave. The council may consider other mitigating measures depending on the count. Mr. Pascoe gave the Crystal Fund Report. Crystal Fund volunteers are gearing up for the plant sale on May 19. They are currently seeking plant donations and plant buyers. The crystal Fund will also be moving forward with the beer & wine fundraiser in 2019. They will be working with a group who runs a similar event in Roseville, who will act as a consultant. Reports were given by Mr. Fortin for park maintenance, and Mr. Berggren for recreation programming. All groups who participated in the 2017 family festival are planning to return in 2018. Ms. Merriam has secured books for the family festival that are being stored at Crystal Public Works building. Ms. Haney would like to award the button contest winners at the June Commission meeting. In other community activities, the Light of Crystal will be holding their Half Way Happy Hour at Milton’s on May 15. They will also be hosting monthly Pizza in the Park events this summer.
