Crystal Parks and Recreation Advisory Commission
April 2, 2014

The Parks and Recreation Commission regular meeting was called to order at 6:38 pm by
Chairperson Jennifer Sodd. Commission members in attendance were: Lori Merriam,
Lynn Haney, Erin Kolb, Stephen Hildre, Michael McClain, Tom Jungroth and Lassana
Bamba Jr. Also present were Casey Peak, Council Liaison, Tom Mathisen and Gene
Hackett from the city staff.
The minutes were approved as sent.
Jennifer Sodd reviewed the work session with the City Council. Members who attended
felt that it went well. The Commission will be pro-active for funding of projects.
The Arbor Day events were reviewed. Members signed up to help at the event. Casey
Peak offered to talk to Mayor Adams to see if they could do hot dogs for the event as part
of their neighborhood outreach plan.
Staff gave the monthly reports, highlighting major activities.
Casey Peak gave the City Council report highlighting various city projects.
Lynn Haney gave the Crystal Frolics report. She informed the Commission of the new
closing time for the carnival. The committee is looking at fencing options to allow the
carnival food booths to serve those not attending the carnival.
Mr. Jungroth gave the Crystal Business Association report. More networking events are
planned.
The main topic of the meeting was reviewing and updating the Commission’s Long
Range Plan. Each section was reviewed and discussed. Ms. Hackett will make the
updates for further review. The Commission decided that in order to update the
neighborhood parks section that they would like to have a park tour. Ms Hackett will set
this up.
Mr. Peak informed the Commission of the Busking event in June.
The next Commission meeting is May 9 at North Lions Park. The Shingle Creek Clean-
up and Arbor Day will be celebrated with a regular Commission meeting at 7pm at the
park.
The meeting was adjourned at 8:23 pm.
