Hagemeister Pond Preserve Neighborhood Meeting
The Crystal Parks and Recreation Commission meeting was called to order at
7:01 pm by Chairperson Tom Jungroth. Commission members in attendance
were: Ms. Sodd, Mr. Moewes-Bystrom, Mr. Lehnertz and Ms. Hillenbrand. Also
present were: Ms. Deshler, City Council Liaison; Mr. Anderson and Mr. Selton,
City Council; Lieutenant Gustafson, Patrol Sergeant Peterson, Mr. Mathisen, Mr.
Rauen and Mr. Berggren from the city staff. In addition members from
Hagemeister neighborhood were in attendance.
Introductions were made. Mr. Jungroth gave the purpose of the neighborhood
meetings.
Mr. Mathisen gave the residents an update of various city projects.
Lieutenant Gustafson summarized police department activities and gave
residents information on calls for service in their area. Patrol Sergeant Peterson
updated the residents about the Citizens on Patrol Program.
Mr. Jungroth opened the meeting to comments on the Shoreline Maintenance
Policy. Residents made no comments:
Residents made comments on other park and recreation items:
· Would like to see more vegetation at the pond, cat tails, etc.
· Would like signs at the edge of the park to deter people from
walking through resident yards.
· Mosquitoes are bad, can anything be done?
· Concerned about weed control at the edge of the park. A lot of
ground ivy. Resident in adjacent property offered to take over the
area to relieve the problem.
· Wondered if trees were restored at Brownwood.
· What will happen to the park as it keeps expanding due to city
acquisition of property?
The residents were thanked for the comments. This portion of the meeting was
adjourned at 7:45pm.
The business meeting of the Crystal Park and Recreation Commission was
classed to order at 7:56pm.
The Commission was updated regarding the Shoreline Policy Work Session on
July 24. No one committed to attending.
The Commission was updated on the status of the clean-up efforts at Twin Lake
Shores. The Parks Department has been weeding and cutting back the willows.
Mr. Rauen discussed the Becker Renovation project. The City meet with an
architect who will be submitting a plan to turn the building into more useable
space.
Mr. Berggren discussed the potential bocce ball court that would go near the
picnic shelters at Bassett Creek Park.
Mr. Berggren distributed the finances for the pool concession for the month of
June. He also handed out the results from the City Survey.
Mr. Rauen reported that general maintenance was consuming most of the time
for the Parks Department. They have taken over the maintenance of the County
Road 81 corridor that runs through Crystal.
Ms. Haney was not present to give the Frolics report.
Mr. Jungroth gave the Chairperson Report – he encouraged people to attend the
Frolics and help out wherever possible.
Ms. Deshler gave the City Council report. Most of her report was given by Mr.
Mathisen at the beginning of the meeting. She added that the Crystal Lions will
be having the 50 th Anniversary Party at North Lions on Saturday July 14 from
10am-3pm at North Lions Park. It is a back to the 60’s theme.
The Crystal Business association will have its July meeting at Hawk Realty.
The monthly reports were given, highlighting major activities.
The minutes were approved as sent.
