Ms. Norris gave a brief update on city projects. Deputy Chief Fealy reviewed a variety
of public safety programs.
Mr. Berggren gave an overview of the proposed community garden program.
Comments on the community garden:
· The park is heavily used – don’t want anything additional in here.
· Part of the area floods.
· Not much interest in the neighborhood
North Lions Park residents made the following comments:
· The city planted a boulevard tree - are residents expected to take care of it.
o Yes
· What if a resident does not want a boulevard tree?
o The City Forester decides which properties get trees based on a city
planting plan. A resident could call the Forester about the planting plan or
to request a planting.
· Concern that there is a park rule sign in Spanish. Felt that all signs should be in
English for all park users.
· Concern about noise and litter in the park.
o Call 911 if you see ordinance violations or if you don’t feel safe.
· Request that the tennis net be reinstalled.
o Public Works will re-install the net
· Why isn’t there parking at Broadway Park.
o Broadway is classified as a neighborhood park and too small for a parking
area.
· A suggestion was made to have a neighborhood event to get to know each other.
· What should residents do if people are in the park after 10pm
o Call 911
o Police will be stepping up patrols of this area this summer with the
increased park use.
· There are drainage problems on parts of the trail
o Public Works will look into it.
· Would like to see the park have more landscaping and flowers – may be willing to
do some upkeep
o Budgets have been reduced for plant materials and maintenance
o A neighborhood group may approach the Crystal Fund for Community
Progress as they have funded other such projects.
· Concern about parking on Lombardy Lane – when cars are parked on both sides,
it is difficult to pass.
o The City Engineer will be notified of the issue.
· Do the groups using the park for baseball pay for it?
o Yes
· Is there an ordinance requiring parents to supervise their children?
o No
