2009.03.04 PRC Minutes Crystal Parks and Recreation Advisory Commission Minutes March 4, 2009 The Crystal Parks and Recreation Commission meeting was called to order at 7:05 p.m. by Chairperson Lori Merriam. Commission members in attendance were: Ms. Haney, Mr. Jungroth, Ms. Josephs, Mr. Lehnertz, Ms. Kalvik and Mr. Mueller. Also present were, Ms. Moore, Council Liaison and Mr. Rauen and Ms. Hackett from the city staff. Also attending were: John Scheuneman and Jennifer Sodd, candidates for Commission openings. Introductions were made. The minutes were approved with the correction to the Crystal Frolics report. Monthly reports were reviewed. Ms. Merriam gave the Chairperson report. Bill Gentry submitted his resignation from the Commission. Two candidates were interviewed for Commission openings. The Commission reviewed the policy budget statements discussed from last months meeting. Ms. Hackett reviewed the budget reductions as accepted by the City Council. Several PIR items were either deleted or moved to other years, Parks lost 1 seasonal employee and the pool will close a week earlier than usual – the season will be the same as New Hope’s. Ms. Haney voiced her concern over the pool closing 1 week earlier. There was additional discussion on how the residents will take the budget reductions. Unfortunately, the 2010 budget will require more reductions with additional state aid lost. It was decided to divide the list into 3 sections: Facilities, Recreation, Citizen Involvement. The Commission will review the list again at the next meeting during discussion of the Council work session agenda. Annandale site is located on 13 acres in Mr. Rauen provided some samples of the updated park signs. Discussion was held concerning size and wording. Mr. Rauen will continue to work on this project. Mr. Rauen provided follow-up to last month’s discussion concerning the Forest neighborhood parks especially Memory Lane. The neighbors are applying for a grant with the Crystal Foundation for trees/shrubs. Mr. Rauen will continue to work with the neighbors on this project. Ms. Moore gave the City Council report: · The Hennepin County Sheriff will help with the Frolics · Phase 10 street reconstruction was approved · Pool Drain covers were approved · A replacement Utility Department vehicle was approved · The Commission recognition dinner was scheduled over Ms. Haney gave the Crystal Frolics report: · The Frolics will be 4 days · Parade is on Sunday afternoon · Discussion regarding the prize for the button contest: Wii or bike There was no CBA report, however Mr. Jungroth said he would promote Crystal Frolics participation to the group at their next meeting. Mr. Jungroth suggested the Commission look into Facebook and Twitter (etc.) as a means to communicate information to residents. More discussion next month. The meeting was adjourned at 8:44pm.
