The adjourned regular meeting of the Council was called to order at
9:00 P.'M. January 9, 1940 by president E. F. Galway. All members
prrsent.
The minutes of the December 26, 1939 meeting were read and approved.

Clarence Olson reported on the manner in which Surplus Commodities
were being distributed, stating the W. P. A. were supposed to furnish
help to efficiently take care of this work. Instead, it is the practice
for each client to help himself because no help is being furnished.
President Galway promised to see that this situation would be corrected.
A motion by Bronstad, seconded by Carrier, that the following resolut-
ion be signed by all members of the Council and a copy mailed to the
Ctate Highway Department: "Carried"
"Resolved that we instruct the estate Highway Department to install one
sodium vapor light at the Nouth end of the island at o6th Ave and the
Belt Line, provided the Robbinsdale Council has made a similar request
for the north End of the Island"
A motion by Bronstad, seconded by Schmidt, that the.salary of the rec-
order remain at $25.00 per month and the Treasurer ;,,100.00 per year
for the year 1940. If Carried"
A motion by Bronstad, seconded by Schmidt, that we give Clarence Olson
permission to spend, not to exceed,,'12.50 for a set of boxing gloves.
The recorder was instructed to get what information he could relative
stopping the cutting of ice in the Lower Twin Lake. Bronstad promised
to contact Geo. Lang of the Issac dalton League.

Constable Little was instructed to investigate the snowfence and
posts that kn,ere torn down at 34th and "F" with the idea of learning
if possible who the offender was.
President Galway promised to learn from Attorney West what steps
could or should be taken in the matter of the spite fence which was
reported to exist in our village.

in a check up the number and kinds required which will be oredered by
the Committee in charge.

asking for a Crystal sign to mark the South boundry of the Village on
the Belt Line.
The Recorder was instructed to write to Mr. Munn of the'f � wa
--tsnt asking for advise -as to the best method of approaching the
Great Northern Ry to have a culvert installed under their tracks at
the Soo Line intersectidn.

A committee from the North end of the Village headed by Mr. Clark appeared
before the Council reported the Minneapolis General Electric Co aaxaat
are asking the sum of $400.00 claiming this would be the cost of setting
poles necessary to serve their community. It is the opinion of the Council
that in view of possibility of our renewing our franchise with the Power
Co. we may get some consideration from them.
A motion by Bronstad, seconded by Schmidt, that we buy an additional 300
ft of Snow Fence 0 $5.66 per 100 ft. "Carried"
The new street lighting contract and distribution franchise was held over
for signing pending a thorough investigation by Attorney H. J. West.
The Recorder was instructed to write the Highway Departmalt for town mark-
ers for West side of Belt Line on 26th. and one for the West side of 36th
facing Nast.
